What role do stablecoins play in LATAM?

Stablecoins are the primary type of crypto asset used in Latin America, surpassing Bitcoin and other crypto assets geared toward speculation.

According to regional data, they account for between 50% and 90% of all crypto transactions and are mainly used as savings instruments, payment methods, and remittance channels.

In Argentina, around 50% of crypto purchases correspond to stablecoins such as USDT and USDC, and the country has an adoption rate close to 20%, the highest in the region.

Data from the exchange Bitso reinforces this trend: 46% of all purchases made on its platform (active in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, and Colombia) are stablecoins.

This pattern shows that, in the region, stablecoins serve a practical function within the everyday economy rather than a purely speculative role.
